About this place
Just down a short flight of stairs into a semi-basement space along a quiet street toward Ekoda's residential quarter, Kitchen Obasan welcomes guests with warm, unhurried ease. The menu reads like a registry of beloved yoshoku favorites, spanning curry, hayashi rice, gratins, and hamburgh steaks, offering plenty to deliberate over on every visit.
First-time visitors often turn to the house omelet hayashi. Delicate, softly cooked eggs are blanketed in a rich, velvety hayashi sauce with a balanced play of sweetness and acidity, making each spoonful over rice effortless. Every meal comes accompanied by salad and a bowl of miso soup, adding an extra touch of homestyle comfort.
The oven-baked curry doria is another perennial favorite, arriving with melted cheese stretching across fragrant, mildly spiced curry and rice. Crisp fried specialties round out the kitchen's strengths; the cream croquettes, available as individual add-ons from 1 piece, are praised for their luscious filling and house tartar sauce. For a lighter appetite, considerate smaller options such as the reduced-portion comu-rice or half-size curry plates are also on hand.
Bathed in mellow lighting, the dining room suits everything from a solo lunch to an easy evening meal. Desserts include weekly rotating homemade cakes, alongside freshly ground charcoal-roasted coffee or freshly squeezed juices to conclude the visit. Payment is strictly cash only, so having coins or bills ready before sitting down is recommended.
